Anton Pearson - Driving Through Belgium

World of Echo

Squid's Anton Pearson sets sail on a solo sea of ambience and brooding measures.

Driving Through Belgium has a F#A#(Godspeed You! Black Emperor) opening with "Driving Past the Muscular Cows in Belgium". Menacing. The wind carries with it a sour feel. A world filled with suicides and empty-bustling streets. Bodies in abundance, but no life in sight. Ambient anxiety moves through it like a conduit of the worlds worst lingering. Planes that take off and never come back down. Never to feel land again. Rubber to never re-hit road. One way tickets. Never-ending and therefore never-beginning journeys. Life-limbo. The track takes up just under half of the album with it's 20-minute runtime - my calculations say somewhere in the ballpark of 43%.

At the crossroads: remain the same or move on; live wrong or die and try again. Re-birthed. Chewed up and spat out once more. This time by your own doing; at your own hands. Hell brought about through indecision and short-sighted senses. Worlds gone by. Infinitely full snapshots. Packed with potential. Potential that potentially will never be met. Ripples that never make shore. Looping mind states. Back to square one and begin again. Gazed upon. Gazed through. The backs of your eyes are wild painters. Worlds bubble up and dissolve in the same breath. Disappearing. In the here and now and never. The mind's breeze. Fields fields fields. The rise and fall of each moment. Moments of grandiosity followed by the comedown. The lifelag. Recycle-lived lives. Been-here’s. Done-that’s. Not-quite-rights. The aching sense of things left unseen; worlds left unexplored.
