Taurus Judge - A Thing Rolled Up

Philadelphia's Taurus Judge release their debut project by name of A Thing Rolled Up. Taurus Judge's Bandcamp reads with regards to the project: "Recorded in the Winter of 2024 in South Philadelphia." The Philly three-piece show real promise and so much more right from the jump.

The wibbly-wobbly-wonders that are Taurus Judge set sail on seas of cheese with the bands debut project. A Thing Rolled Up is clunkily performed, but not from incompetence. Taurus Judge know exactly what they're doing, I think. They pull off tricks that can't be mistakes, or can they? The only thing I'm certain of is that I'm uncertain. It all feels like a serendipitous slap of odd-shaped, fuzzy sonics, albeit a very welcomed slap. Like a ragged wheel hurtling down a lumpy hill, predicting the outcome is futile. Sit back and watch the carnage unfold.

Intention is important. How you frame it sets the stage. You can stumble into greatness, as long as you're failing forwards. Retreat, and you lose the lingo. Purposefully poised as a quirky, eccentric piece of Indie-Slacker-Noise goodness, A Thing Rolled Up will have you re-energised for guitar-based music once more.

The project opens up on "Seed Oil" - an allusion to the project title? More than likely. The noisy-fuzz of Taurus Judge is set from square one. The rolling fudge of momentum that the track builds up-and-into is stunted by questioning bits of guitar(A Thing Rolled Up?); the question is answered by answering bits of guitar(A Thing Rolled Up!), and the track falls back into its groove. A Thing Rolled Up is like a gangly-legged centipede with eggs on its back - all the possible ways things can go wrong, and, maybe, right. You may have to break a few eggs, or the lot. Good luck, bad luck, who knows?

Things that can be rolled up: a rug, a crank-handled car window, a fat one, your arch nemesis - beat his punk ass. Where the Taurus Judge revolver, designed and produced by Taurus International, has five shots, A Thing Rolled Up has six of the phattest slugs. You won't find these slugs chomping on no salad, baby.

Philadelphia delivers the goods again, and again! I have been told that there are more than 40 species of fish in the Philadelphia waters; I'm starting to think that there's much more than just fish.
